Marie Madsen of N.C. State shot 4-under-par 68 Tuesday at Daniel Island Club’s Ralston Creek course to earn medalist honors by one stroke at 6-under 210 at the Daniel Island Invitational.
But High Point University won the Charleston-area tournament with an even-par 864 total, six shots ahead of second-place N.C. State in the 15-team event. Anna Howerton (pictured) led the way for HPU in the 15-team women’s event.
Madsen, ranked No. 13 in the country, overcame a one-stroke deficit to Howerton entering the final round. Vania Simont tied for 11th at even-par and Ellie Hildreth tied for 18th at 220 for the Wolfpack.
East Carolina finished in a tie for third, Charlotte tied for 10th and Elon was 14th in the team race.
