Broughton, Willow Spring and Apex qualified for the Class 8A state high school championship next week by finishing 1-2-3 Tuesday in the 8A East Regional at Bentwinds Country Club.
Broughton shot 301, Willow Spring 307 and Apex 312, beating Wakefield by one shot for the final spot at Pinehurst No. 8.
Summerlin Smith of Broughton shot 71 to edge Daniel McBrien of Apex and Charlie Wiltshire of Athens Drive by one stroke.
The Class 7A and 8A championships are next week at Pinehurst No. 8.
Class 7A East
Eric Chavez shot 72 to win medalist and lead Heritage to the second qualifying spot in 7A East behind Cardinal Gibbons at Emerald Golf Club.
Ian McGee, who tied with William Zogg of Sanderson for second place, led Gibbons with 73.
Class 6A East
Kenan Pittman of Middle Creek and Colin McLeod of Hartnett Central shot 71 to share top honors at Country Club of Johnston County.
Freshmen Terry Horne and Ryan Hedgecoe led team champion Terry Sanford with 72. Sanford shot 291. Middle Creek qualified as a team with 309.
The Class 5A and 6A championship will be at Sapona Club in Lexington.
Class 5A East
Landon Kintzele shot 78 to lead James B. Hunt to the second qualifying spot at Wedgewood Golf Club in Wilson. South Brunswick, which claimed the top three individual places, won the team race by 25 strokes.

Class 3A East
Princeton won the team title to advance at 3A East. Aaron Lane of Princeton shared medalist honors with Chase Jackson of runnerup Midway at 75 at Timberlake Golf Club.
The 3A and 4A state championships are at Longleaf in Southern Pines.
