When Rob Nelson arrived at Croasdaile Country Club, he was ready for a new experience. As it turns out, life beyond the golf course has some perks, too.
Nelson took over at the beginning of March as the head golf professional at the private Durham club, replacing Cole Huckabee, who oversaw the golf operation for the past 32 years. So far, he is impressed with what he sees.
“The course is absolutely wonderful,” Nelson said. “Our golf course is in the best shape in the area. I know many people feel that way. Our greens are second to none.”
At age 33, the Croasdaile membership is putting its faith in a very young head pro. In turn, Nelson hopes to make his mark with a young group of golfers. In his previous job as head pro at the The Country Club of Bristol (Tenn.), Nelson earned a reputation for working with junior golfers. He established a seven-tournament junior tour for the Tri-Cities region of Northeast Tennessee. Prior to the tour, there were no regional junior events.
