Katherine Perry is closing out an amazing run in junior golf on top.
Perry, who will be a freshman at North Carolina this fall, added to her long list of junior achievements on June 25 by winning the N.C. Junior Girls Championship at Forest Oaks Country Club.
She capped a three-day run of five match play wins with a 2-up decision over Andrea Robbins of Pleasant Garden.
Perry is already No. 1 in the N.C. Junior Girls rankings with a run that began with the N.C. Women’s Amateur title in June of 2009. She’s added five victories since, including the NCHSAA 4-A Championship last fall while leading Athens Drive to the team title.
Perry opened the event with a 72 in medal play qualifying, finishing a shot back of Kayla Sciupider of Etowah.
She then got an opening round 8-and-6 win over Mary-Kate Holanek of Cary before surviving a close battle (1 up) with Taylor Penzer of Summerfield.
She scored similar 5-and-4 wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals, eliminating Mallory Warwick of Wilson and Madison Kennedy of Salisbury.
In the boys’ championship, Carter Page of Waynesville defeated Will Long of Gastonia 1 up in the finals.
Page, a rising high school junior, had a tough match in the first round but survived one extra hole to get past Carter Jenkins of Raleigh.
It didn’t get any easier when he advanced through the bracket with wins over Zack Seabolt of Raleigh (2 and 1), Roy Dixon of Salisbury (3 and 2), James Ellis of Greenville (19 holes) and Todd Eckstein of Durham (1 up).
Eckstein, a rising senior at Trinity School in Durham where he led his team to the NCISAA state championship in June, tied for fourth in medal play qualifying with 69 before posting four wins in match play.
He opened with a 2-and-1 decision over Archer Price of Gastonia and then got past Richard Fountain of Raleigh, 1 up.
In the round of 16, he stopped Alex Ehlert of Raleigh 4 and 2 and then took a 1-up quarterfinal win over qualifying medalist Davis Womble of High Point.
