The Triangle advanced two players into the match play section of the U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur.
Ella June Hannant of Pikeville and Jenna Kim of Raleigh survived Tuesday’s 36-hole cut from 156 players to the top 64 for Wednesday’s opening-round match-play pairings.
Hannant added 72 to Monday’s 69 to for a 3-under-par 141. Colombian Maria Isabella Errichetta, playing out of Southern Pines, shot 68 Tuesday to join Hannant in a tie for 17th place.
Kim cut it close, firing 74 after opening with 72, to post 146 and tie for 51st — just one shot inside the cut line.
Kim drew Jude Lee of Walnut, California, at 9:33 a.m. Wednesday. Hannant will play Severa Sandhu of Ashburn, Virginia, at 12:33 p.m. Errichetta will play Yisoo Min of South Korea at 1:09 p.m.
Victoria Davis of Cary, who opened with 70, failed to make the cut after shooting 78. Riley Grimm of Pinehurst also missed the cut after adding 77 to her opening 73. Carolinas Girls’ champion Mia Carles of Clinton, South Carolina, joined Davis at 148.
Foreign players topped the leaderboard. Clairey Lin of Canada shot 65 to win medalist honors at 13-under 131. Yujie Liu of China was second at 132, with Japan’s Anna Iwanaga at 136.
The six players at 147 will take part in a playoff for the final two spots in the match-play bracket on Wednesday morning. Other ties for seeding will be determined by matching scorecards.
