There’s another PGA Tour winner with Triangle ties.
Jackson Koivun, who moved to Chapel Hill from California before his senior year of high school, shot 5-under-par 66 Sunday and held off a final-day charge from the world’s No. 1 player to win the 3M Open at TPC of Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.
The 21-year-old Koivun, who left Auburn after leading the Tigers to the NCAA Championship this spring, finished at 25-under 259, beating Scottie Scheffler, who closed with 63, by three strokes.
Koivun also moved to No. 70 on the FedEx Cup points list. The top 70 after the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, qualify for the FedEx playoffs.
