Andy Knox of Cary earned player of the year honors and was one of two North Carolina players to make the All-Carolinas team for 2009.
The announcement was made in December, just a few days after Knox was also named to the Carolinas Golf Association’s All-State team.
Knox, who will play collegiately at UNC Greensboro, was joined on the All-Carolinas team by Payne McLeod of Reidsville and Damon Postal of Blythewood, S.C.
The All-Carolinas Junior Team is based upon a 12-event series of junior tournaments run by six associations that are the grassroots of junior golf in the Carolinas.
On the All-State team, Knox earned first-team honors along with fellow Triangle players Michael Cromie of Cary, Richard Fountain of Raleigh and Grayson Murray of Raleigh.
The girls first team included player of the year Katherine Perry of Cary along with Lizzie Bundy of Clayton and Taelor Rubin of Raleigh.
The All-State second team included Sarah Bae of Raleigh, Michelle Pilo of Apex, Casey Ward of Chapel Hill, Wilson Day of Raleigh, Spencer Lawson of Raleigh, Sam Packard of Pinehurst and Patrick Sawrey of Smithfield.
To be eligible for all-state, juniors must have played in a minimum of five TYGA N.C. rankings events from Dec. 1, 2008, through Nov. 30, 2009. The awards were determined by a combination of each player’s scoring differential and the total points earned in the rankings events.
