North Carolina State’s golf team has been invaded by a rampaging bunch of Canadians, an Ontario trio that is tearing up the Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the back lot of the school’s Centennial Campus.
One of them, NCAA champion Matt Hill, is well-known to local fans, since he had perhaps the greatest season in the history of college golf in 2009, winning eight of the last nine events he played last spring and becoming the first player since Tiger Woods to win his conference tournament, an NCAA Regional and the NCAA Championship in succession.
He returned to school for his junior season in hopes of matching those feats.
But he’s just one of several Canucks competing for the Wolfpack.
Hill came to Raleigh on the recommendation of senior Brad Revell, a native of Kingston, Ontario. Revell, the top-ranked junior player in Ontario prior to his arrival at N.C. State, has been a solid performer so far in his career, but he’s looking to return to the days when he and Hill were always neck-and-neck for championships.
